Apps For Home Schooling Review

It's always nice when sombody says they like you :) and when Jennifer from Apps for Home Schooling wrote a review about us she said some very nice things indeed. In fact here's a shortened version of her review:

It’s Time for Carrots is the first app in the Grandpa Joe and Rufus series of storybook app.  The story is told in rhyming phrases and lets you turn the Read To Me option on and off with a single tap.  When read by the lively English narrator the story is accompanied by gentle music.  When Read To Me mode is turned off there is no narration or music, but the interactive elements on each page still make their own sounds.
Near the end of the book a spelling enrichment activity – Spell With Rufus – is included.  When one of the objects from the story is tapped, its name is shown, said and the narrator spells the word aloud before saying the object name again. “Flower, f-l-o-w-e-r, flower!”  The included words are: shed, flower, compost, bone, carrots, seeds, window, snail, and cloud.
Pages turn by tapping the lower corners of the page. 

What We Liked:
We have a passionate carrot lover in our family (our five-year-old), so even though the title is aimed at encouraging children to embrace carrots, my little ones enjoyed celebrating carrots with Grandpa Joe and Rufus.
Since our family gardens organically I loved seeing the growth of carrots being portrayed so naturally and simply.  Watering cans, seeds, compost = carrots!  One of the interactive pages lets your child spelling the word ‘CARROTS’ by tapping the seeds laid out in the garden.  Other pages include gardening tools your child can move around, and Grandpa and Rufus often move when tapped as well – nice, simple interactivity.
This short, simple, and cheerful story was eagerly received and enjoyed by my 3 and 5-year-olds.
